How Do Businesses Benefit From CSR Donations?
I am a founder of a retail chain in the eastern zone of India. We have been in business for the last 20 years and our company actively contributes to philanthropic CSR donations. We have been associated with an NGO named Annamrita Foundation for the last 5 years. They are a Non-Government charitable organization providing mid-day meals in schools across 14 different cities in India since the last 17 years to uproot hunger in children depriving them of their right to education.
Our executives have participated in many meal donation drives and distributed healthy, nutritious and hygienic meals to the poor and backward and nourished the dream of a hunger-free India. From my experience, CSR has many benefits for businesses regardless of its size or sector.
The potential benefits of CSR for companies are:
- Better brand
recognition: Investment in corporate social responsibility helps you to
build a responsible brand reputation which in turn can provide you a
competitive edge. Customers favor companies with responsible policies as
it reflects the brand’s positive outlook. This leads to increased sales
and improved customer loyalty.
- Cost
savings: When businesses participate in CSR donations, they enjoy
several tax exemption benefits under 80G which leads to cost savings and
improves bottom line financial performance
- Greater
ability to attract and retain good talent: Engaging in philanthropic
activities such as meal donation for children in schools engages
employees in the right way. Employees get motivated and stay longer
cutting the costs related to recruitment and training new staff.
- Easier
access to capital: CSR donations attract media attention highlighting your
business in the positive light. Investors are more likely to invest in a
reputable business that takes part in community activities.
- Decreased
regulatory burden: When you engage in community activities such as
distributing mid-day meals in schools in your locality, you
establish good relationships with the local authorities. By gaining their
trust and support, doing business in an area becomes easier.
